I work as a reporter for the Indianola Independent Advocate, a family-owned online newspaper launched five years ago. In December, the New York Times selected one of my stories as one of its 25 picks nationwide for “Journalism to Savor,” sharing it in the NYT’s Dec. 22 morning newsletter. My story recounted how an Indianola bookseller unearthed a mysterious 318-year-old Bible and traced its path from Scotland of 1705 to present-day central Iowa.
