Andrew Shahriari ’90 was named Scholar of the Month at Kent State University. Kent State’s Scholar of the Month recognizes faculty researchers and scholars whose recent work has had an important impact on their professional fields and has brought exposure to the University.
He was recently promoted to associate professor of music and serves as coordinator of online classes for music in the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music in the College of Arts. His current research focuses on ethnomusicology, music and autism, and online world music education.
Andrew has published three books on world music traditions with a focus on listening and understanding cultural associations. He is an invited speaker at many conferences and symposia, most recently presenting his research on autism and dynamic problem solving through music at the International Conference of Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Neurodevelopmental Disorders in Mumbai, India.
Andrew and wife Christina live in Stow, Ohio, with their son Cyrus.
