Jacob Dreyer 2011

As a student at Central, I worked for Larry Happel in the sports information department. I decided I wanted to work in collegiate athletics and changed my major to better aid my professional journey. During my senior year, South Dakota State offered me a graduate assistantship in its sports information department, which enabled me to pursue a master’s degree while gaining valuable work experience. After graduating from South Dakota State, I accepted the assistant sports information director position at Central. Ten months later, I shifted my professional focus to nonprofit work and accepted the position of public information director at Christian Opportunity Center. Future aspirations are to accept God’s call…wherever it may lead.

The times I cherish most from my four years at Central are the normal, everyday moments with my friends, particularly my doubles partner and roommate Seth Harris ’12. From playing ultimate frisbee between the Weller Center for Business and International studies and Geisler Library to playing gennis from Jordan Hall to Kuyper Athletic Complex; those are times I remember fondly.

Following my four years at Central College, I moved to Brookings, S.D., for a two-year stint at South Dakota State as a graduate assistant in its sports information department. My wife Rachael and I were married in June 2013 and I returned to Pella one month later when I accepted the position in the sports information department at Central. I transitioned to my current position at Christian Opportunity Center in April 2014.

My favorite book and one that I always recommend is The Giver by Lois Lowry. The 1994 Newbery Medal winner is an incredible story and the movie did not do it justice. The majority of the books I read over the past year were religious, such as devotionals and commentaries.

In my free time I enjoy playing tennis, disc golf, fantasy football, cribbage and table tennis. My wife and I enjoy watching Disney movies, playing games such as Dutch Blitz, completing puzzles and travel. We are active in our church community at Federated Fellowship. In the winter, I join Cory Houser on the air via KNIA/KRLS to color commentate Central College men’s and women’s basketball games. I also serve as vice president on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity of Marion County and am a member of 100+ Men on a Mission – Red Rock.
