A native of Manchester, Iowa, now residing in Doylestown, Pa, Stan has not been slowed down by time and this year he has marked a number of milestones. Stan continues to serve on the advisory board of PRO_ACT, (Pennsylvania Recovery Organization – Achieving Community Together), a grassroots advocacy and recovery support initiative of the Council of Southeast Pennsylvania that works to reduce the stigma of addiction, ensure the availability of adequate treatment and recovery support services, and to influence public opinion and public policy regarding the value of recovery in the community. In December, Stan served as master of ceremonies for the organization’s annual Tree of Hope ceremony that honors those who through their volunteer efforts provide invaluable support to the recovery community and acknowledges those who have lost their lives to the disease of addiction.
January saw Stan honored by the board of supervisors of Doylestown Township for his years of service on the township’s board of auditors, and in May he celebrated daughter Abigail’s graduation from Temple University. In June he was joined by Abigail and his son Benjamin at a ceremony in the garden of the PRO-ACT Women’s Recovery Community Center. The garden was dedicated to the memory of their brother and Stan’s son Forrest. Stan played a significant role in the construction of the garden, now in its second year of providing organic fruits and vegetables for the nourishment of the residents of the center.
Still working full time, he nevertheless looks forward to taking time off and joining classmates of ’71 for their 45th reunion in September.
