Patricia Donahue 1971

I was on the Madrid, Spain program with Central College 1971-72. I graduated with a Spanish degree from Regis College after which I taught 18 years at Salem High School in Salem, MA and served as the department head/director of foreign languages the last 2.5 years I was there. I left to work at Brookline, an incredible public school with supportive parents and great students for 17 years until my retirement in 2007.

I loved Brookline, but the trip in everyday was long. So I accepted an offer to work year-round at a clinic teaching Spanish in a residency program at the Great Lawrence Family Health Clinic, where I had already been working during the summer. I love my job teaching Spanish to the medical staff and have been there 21 years – seven of which were spent working year round. For the past seven years, I have taught Spanish in the nursing program at Regis College, where I received my Spanish undergraduate degree.

About five years ago I purchased a condo in Spain. It’s great traveling to Spain a couple times a year. My year in Spain with Central College was such a fantastic experience and it’s what helped me make a decision to buy a condo there. Ken Van Cor (Madrid Program ’71-72) and I are still great friends and we talk almost every day. When I was the department head at Salem High School, I called up Ken and he came up from Florida to start teaching at Salem. He left Salem the same year I did to take the department head job at Barnstable. I live in Wenham, MA.
