In Memoriam: Wilma Damhof Hoekstra ’45 and ’69

Wilma Damhof Hoekstra ’45 and ’69 of Pella, Iowa, passed away June 11, 2024. A well-known figure at alumni, athletics and other Central College events, Wilma and her late husband Tony Hoekstra ’61 established a legacy of love for Central that persisted for over 80 years and multiple generations. As a mother of six, grandmother of 17, great grandmother of 42 and a teacher of hundreds, Wilma’s lifelong passion for learning was cultivated while attending Central. This ultimately led to a career as one of Pella’s most beloved first-grade teachers at old Lincoln Elementary School. Wilma was an active member of her church, involved in the Pella Regional Hospital and Legion auxiliaries, volunteer work and more. She loved to cook and bake, spend time with her family and serve the Lord.
