Football Team Rallies for Second-Place Finish

A season-ending four-game winning streak vaulted the Central football team to second place in the Iowa Conference and a 7-3 overall mark.

Led by seven first-team all-conference picks, Central recorded its 32nd top-two league finish since 1980.

Senior linebackers Tyler Olson and Sam Norgaard were among the standouts as each racked up 107 tackles. Olson was on the D3football.com all-West Region third team. Meanwhile, senior Sam Markham leaves as one of the most prolific receivers in school history. He had 63 catches for 1,042 yards and 11 TDs, and his 295 career receptions are nearly twice that of any of Central receiver. He also set career marks for yards (3,987) and TD catches (33).

A key to the season was the elevation of freshman Blaine Hawkins to the starting quarterback spot in the fifth game. He threw for 1,691 yards and 18 touchdowns with three interceptions and a 62.4 completion percentage.
