Charlie Strey began as associate dean of student life Aug. 1, bringing 30 years of student affairs experience to Central. Strey served as assistant dean of students and director of residential life at Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.). He’s earned a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from the University of Wis.-Platteville and a bachelor’s in comparative studies in religion from the University of Wis.-Eau Claire.
Following JoNes VanHecke’s departure, Eric Jones ’87, director of academic support services, is serving as interim dean of students from June 10, 2011- Aug. 1, 2012. VanHecke was named vice president for student life and dean of students at Gustavus Adolphus, her alma mater.
Over the years, Jones has served as interim director of residence life, residence hall director, interim director of student activities, counselor and admission counselor and, most recently, director of academic support services, instructor of Introduction to College Success (ICS) and assistant football coach.
Central College will begin a national search for dean of students this fall with an expected appointment in the summer of 2012.
