New Plaza Entryway to Campus

This fall, students will be welcomed to campus by a new plaza entryway outside Central Hall.

Central is getting a makeover in the form of new signs and a grand plaza. To clearly delineate the campus entrances, President Mark Putnam initiated a project consisting of three brick-faced signs and a plaza entryway. Construction on the entryway began this spring and, other than a few finishing details, should be completed by Homecoming in the fall.

Two brick-faced signs, costing $125,000 each, will be placed at the corners of Independence and Broadway and Broadway and University. A smaller brick-faced sign, costing $50,000, will be placed at the corner of University and West 4th. Steve and JoAnn De Cook have graciously agreed to donate one of the larger signs. The plaza entryway — costing $500,000 — will be located at the main entrance near Central Hall and Graham Conference Center. Additional parking spaces are also being developed south of University Street for prospective students, parents and alumni.
