President Mark Putnam presented diplomas to his first graduating class at Central College on May 14 in H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse. The class of 2011 included 334 graduates from 16 states and one foreign country. Forty-nine students graduated with a double major, and 34 were children of alumni.
The Central College Symphonic Wind Ensemble performed before the ceremony. Speaker Tom Boat ’61, now dean of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, addressed the class with a speech titled “The Next Fifty Years: Change and Choices.” Boat was presented with an honorary Doctor of Science degree at the ceremony.
