Arthur J. Bosch, professor emeritus of chemistry, passed away Nov. 6 in Pella.
A 1951 Central graduate, Bosch earned master’s and doctoral degrees in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin before returning to Central in 1958, serving on the faculty for 35 years. His late wife Dorothy, who died in 2010, also taught at Central. Their four children, Robert ‘79, Barbara ‘80, Ronald ‘86 and Rebecca ‘90 all graduated from Central.
The Art Bosch Chemistry Award is presented annually to a senior for outstanding service to the department and was established following his retirement. Throughout his 50-year career, Bosch modeled the principle of intellectual and social engagement and advanced best practices for professional collaboration with colleagues and students.
In recognition of that, he was honored at commencement ceremonies last spring when The Arthur J. Bosch Endowment for Student Research was announced. The endowment provides financial support for undergraduate students to engage in professional research opportunities during the summer in preparation for graduate school or a chosen career, and helps students develop a network of professionals who can serve as lifelong mentors and colleagues.

Art will be greatly missed by many! He was a joy to teach when I received my “x’ credit during Fitness After 50 by leading exercises at Vriendschap Village in Pella.
